  1. In today's lesson, we discussed the different types of introduction paragraphs: questions, shocking statements, quotation, definitions, and background and direct statements. I thought it was a very helpful lesson, because these different introduction paragraphs help make an essay more interesting to read and catch the readers' attention in the first paragraph. We also practiced these different types of introductory paragraphs by writing three of our own and sharing them with the class. I thought today's lesson was helpful and will definitely improve our writing skills.

  3. Today's lesson was very helpful. This lesson introduced me to more options in which I can start my introductory paragraph to an essay. Prior to this lesson, I would struggle with ideas to start my introductory paragraph, and usually end up with a paragraph that was vague. In addition to my struggle, I would have a weak thesis statement. However, after today I feel that I have improved my writing ability because I am knowledgeable of the verity of introduction methods such as: direct statement of thesis, background, definition, quotation, shocking statement and question, and questions and a definition.

  4. Types on Introduction paragraphs include : Direct Statement of Thesis, Background, Definition, Quotation, Shocking Statement and Questions and Questions and a Definition. Today we were able to share our own versions of different uses of introduction paragraphs. I believe that the lesson was not only fun but I also noticed that many people put extra time into these paragraphs because of the different formats which made the paragraphs more interesting and personal.

  5. In todays lesson we discussed writing various types of introductory paragraphs. Many would agree that the introduction or beginning of any story is your best bet at getting people to read it. The ability to capture the viewers attention and feed in to their interests in a quick and effective way is what I believe separates good writers from bad ones. Today we learned how to interest the viewer and we were given six ways of doing so in a proper essay format. Writing introductory paragraphs can at times be my greatest obstacle during an essay prompt and I am grateful that we were given a chance to practice during class. Thanks to Ms.Rivera I have yet another reference when writing future essays.

  6. Today's discussion was about introductory paragraphs. An introduction attracts the reader and points out the controlling idea. It also smoothly follows through with the body paragraph. There are different types of introductory methods: direct statement of thesis, background definition quotation, shocking statement and questions, and questions and a definition. It took some time to use three methods for one topic. It was good experience to try the various methods though. We also read about conclusion but today's discussion touched more on introduction.

  9. In todays lesson, we discussed writing types of introductory paragraphs. It was hard for me to write 3 types of introductory paragraphs with the given amount of time because none of the subjects were really suitable for me. Although I didn't participate in the exercise, I do understand the concept of using the various types of introductory paragraphs. Kudos to my classmates who shared their introductory paragraphs on their choice of topic!

  10. Today's lesson was really interesting. I really got to learn the types of introductory paragraphs. Today was my first time hearing about these types of introduction. Our class had to do an activity where we apply the types of introductory paragraphs. It really took us a long time to make an introductory paragraph. I was a little scared to say my introduction paragraphs. I thought it was to vague. At the end it was really good. I know what to do next time I make an introductory paragraph. In the future I can apply these types of paragraphs, so my essay can be good.

  11. Today's lesson was awesome. I finally got to learn how the essay works with the thesis statement. The exercises were challenging due to the choices that we had to write about. Narrative essay has the root of "narrate." Therefore, a narrative essay has a certain point of view for the reader to see.

  12. The lesson over "Writing the Essay," includes introduction, development, transition, and conclusion paragraph. There are many ways to introduce a paragraph. One, by direct statement of thesis; second, background; third, definition; fourth, quotation; fifth, shocking statement and questions; and finally, questions and definition. The different types of introduction is not easy to developed as I discovered during the class activity. But once I did the activity, I found it very helpful.
