  1. An argumentative essay is a essay where you use research where the
student collects data through interviews, surveys, observations, or experiments and using different point of views to use to support the topic. if i had to choose a topic it would be  Drivers in the state of Minnesota who are over 70 years old must pass an annual test for
eyesight and physical ability before they can renew their driver's license . i believe this should be sooner because personally ive almost crashed into older people because of there selfish acts in driving , just because your old doesnt mean you have the right of way it is a danger to everyone sometimes.

    1. I agree with your personal opinion. I recently just got into a car accident. An old man hit me, even if I was being a responsible driver, being on the correct lane I should be lol.

    2. That's true, maybe they could even push it to a lower age... or while they're at it, they should just test everyone. Well, unless you have 20/20 vision.

      Delete
    3. I agree, older people tend to drive slower and more cautiously, but some are just dangerous.

    4. I agree with your personal opinion because sometimes older people have bad eyesight and a slower perception than younger people. They should be tested in order to drive.

    5. I agree. Good topic because the roads might be dangerous for old people.

  2. In order to write an argumentative essay, you are required to do a lot of research. Using such things as interviews, observations, etc. can help to collect data. Argumentative essays are sometimes written using the five paragraph essay, but can also be longer for more detailed papers. For my argumentative essay, I would write about the topic "The classroom size of grades K through 5 statewide should be set at a maximum of 20
students", because I think that classes that have too many students in them can cause less one on one time with teachers & students. Also, I think that each student should be able to shine, rather than feeling like they are lost in a crowd of too many students.

Today, we read Chapter 4 "Writing the Paragraph". We learned about the 4 different types of paragraphs : Introductory, Developmental, Transitional and Concluding. We also learned about the two patterns of conventional paragraphs, Pattern A (topic sentence&support) & Pattern B (topic sentence, support & concluding sentence).

    1. Aww that's true. Every pupil should be attended. Crowded classrooms, would make it difficult for gradeschool students to learn. Having said that they might feel as if they are "lost in a crowd of too many students."

    2. Your right, i personally prefer a less crowded classroom, so that the teacher can notice me and i can get the help i want throughout the semester.

    3. This is a good topic, especially for public school on Guam. Many local public schools are over populated, resulting in a larger amount of students assigned to one teacher. The ratio of one teacher to an average large class consisting of about 27 students, especially at a young elementary school age, can be overwhelming. Younger children require more attention and guidance than older ones. Therefore, it is reasonable to have a set amount of 20 students in a class.

      Delete
    4. I agree with your reasoning on why you choose to write about that topic. Smaller class sizes will help teachers have more time with individual students so that no one is lost and the learning is more effective.

      Delete
    5. Good topic and I agree that smaller classes will help improve learning because students can get more private time with the teacher.

  3. An argumentative essay includes a topic, which requires research. Detailed research allow us to learn about the topic and understand different perspectives regarding the topic. In able to write an effective argumentative essay your point in whichever side you choose must be clear with the evidence used during research.

The topic I would choose is "The birth control pill is more dangerous than the medical community has led us to believe
and should be removed [or restricted] from general consumption." I selected this topic because it is true that although the use of the pill may prevent women from getting pregnant, decrease acne, and help gain weight... there are also negative effects which is bloodclot, highblood pressure, heart problems, etc. It's easy to do research on this topic because it is familiar to me and common to most females.

Today we learned about 2 different types of essay patters. The overall activities effective and helped me understand the 2 patterns.

    1. Oh man, I would definitely be interested in reading your essay. There are a great amount of women who are taking this pill, yet I bet they haven't even read up or did any research on the side effects.

    2. Sound's very interesting, never knew the side effects, but it does sound very bad. It may also lead to death.

    3. I would really enjoy reading your essay. The topic you chose could interest everyone. Everyone, men & women, should know the side effects of birth control pills and all other medications.

    4. This sounds interesting and I would like to learn about the side effects of birth control pills. Nice topic.

    5. That's very interesting. I never knew there would be side effects. I want to read your paper.

  4. An argumentative essay is the essay of reasoning. That means the details must be facts but also with examples and evidences. Research will be the writer's best recommendation before beginning the writing process of an argumentative essay.

Today's lesson made me participate a whole lot. We learn two types of patterns of a paragraph. We covered the exercise with confidence and success.

    1. I agree, research will be the writer's best recommendation before starting on the essay!

      Delete
    2. I also agree that research would be the best recommendation to gather facts for an argumentative essay. However, you can also gather interesting and useful information by interviewing someone who has actually witnessed or was a part of something in relation to your topic of your essay. Other resources you can gather information from, are surveys or statistics.

  5. An argumentative essay is an essay, which requires the writer to compose and collect evidence to support its main idea. In addition, argumentative essays usually require extensive research to attain the evidence or examples necessary for the support of the main idea.
I would choose the topic of restricting cellphone use while driving. The media has shared stories of serious accidents that have resulted in server injuries that have changed a persons life forever, and sometimes even death.
The activities we did in class today, made it easier for me to identify the main idea and the supporting detail in an essay and paragraph. Now I feel more confident in exercising this technique.

    1. That is a good topic! I feel that people are really trying to push it more and more with all of those commercial ads they air on TV. They even have that pledge to not text and drive.

      Delete
    2. This is a topic everyone needs to read. Never text and drive. You can be doing one thing and the next thing you know you kill or hurt someone seriously in just a blink of an eye. Now your whole life is filled with regret. think before you act.

    3. I'm thinking about writing about this topic too because seeing those commercials by the It Can Wait Campaign really struck a chord. People need to realize how serious this issue is becoming.

    4. I really like this topic because people need to be aware about the consequences of text and driving.

  6. An argumentive essay is one that is written to provide persuasive information about the topic to get the opposing viewers to change their minds. These types of essays are definitely my favorite. Especially when I can either relate to the topic that I am backing up or one that I feel strongly about. The topic I would choose would be "Fathers should be allowed the same treatment as mothers in family court decisions. Too many times the mother is favored because of the 'nurturing' stereotype." I chose this topic because it makes a lot of sense and people need to realize that not everybody has the same situation (dealing with the types of parents they have) In today's lesson, we discussed the different types of patterns that essays can have. I found that the type of pattern I normally use is the one with the concluding sentence. I tend to repeat/revise my topic sentence at the end of my essay.

    1. I like how you mentioned that an argumentative essay provides persuasive information, because i never really thought of it in that way. I personally, thought that writing an argumentative essay was the most challenging because of all of the research it required. However, when you mentioned that it can persuade people, it seemed a little less challenging. I guess saying "PERSUASIVE FACTS" could be another way to say the word i dread; "RESEARCH". Persuasive facts just seems a little more at ease for me.
      Nice point of view Krystal

    2. I'm sure your essay will come along well since some people find it easier to write about a topic they feel strongly about.

    3. That's an awesome choice of topic, because I feel the same way about that situation as well. Majority of the time, it seems like the jury sides with the female/mother in most cases. Good luck with writing your essay.

  8. An argumentative essay is an essay where you choose a topic that people can argue about or disagree with. I would choose the topic "Cloning should be banned until necessary safeguards and precautions can be established
to allow the research to be conducted safely and prudently." Because, cloning can actually be dangerous in my opinion and cause difficulty around the world. It would be a fun topic to write about. Today's overall lesson was exciting and we learned more about 2 types of patterns.

    1. Cloning, seems like an interesting topic to write about. I guess i never really bothered to look into the subject of cloning. However, I agree that it could cause some serious difficulty around the world. I look forward to hear what you have come up with in your essay.

    2. That topic sounds very interesting. It would be fun to see cases involving cloning.

    3. I agree that cloning is both interesting, yet very dangerous and even in some cases unethical. With our modern technology, cloning will most likely become a popular topic in the future.

    4. This is a really good point and topic for an argument. This will catch people's attention for sure.

    5. Good choice of topic! I did not even know cloning was actually possible and was being conducted. I would be interested in reading your essay.

  9. An argumentative essay includes researching a topic along with gathering supporting reasons and presenting ones position on the topic. This type of essay is usually used to discuss controversial issues. A topic I'm considering to write about would be on driver's using cell phones. It would be interesting to learn more about the consequences and cases involving this issue. In class we went over writing the paragraph and learned about patterns a and b which I find pretty easy to distinguish.

    1. I agree with patters 'A' and 'B' being easy to distinguish. Also, that's a great way to define an argumentative essay.

  10. An argumentative essay is an essay in which you research a topic, collect the facts, develop an opinion on that topic, and choose a side. Argumentative and expository essays are often confused, but argumentative essays involve much more research. When I write this essay, I would choose the topic "We should initiate a national health insurance program in the United States and model the
program on successful ones used in Europe [or Canada]" because I agree with this statement. I would also like to learn about the different health care policies and research it.

  11. An argumentative essay is in fact an essay that is written through collective research and data to allow readers both whom support the subject but also who may not agree with it an outlet to change there perspective about said subject. It is similar to a debate on paper. You may be reading about the subject but your mind is continuously agreeing or disagreeing with whatever facts or data you are reading about.
I would argue about "Drug tests for patrons who receive Federal assistance."

    Replies
    1. I agree. We must research the topic first because our mind will always have that thought of disagreeing or agreeing.

    2. Yes, good point on what you would argue about, course of reasoning point of view.

  12. Argumentative essay is an essay which you can research data about your argument. You collect the data and when you do, then you can make a strong essay of arguing. The reason for collecting data is to make sure your argument is strong. If it's too vague then what's the point of making it a argumentative essay. If I would choose a topic for an argumentative essay I would pick abortion. I would state the Pros and Cons of abortion. Ex.; Pros of abortion will help the female away from taking care of a baby, and cons of abortion will in fact show that the female killed a baby before it was born.

  13. An argumentative essay is an essay in which you do research on the topic. You collect data and facts to further back up your topic to make a strong argumentative essay that proves a point. I would choose to write on how every state should enact a divorce counseling law that requires married couples to go through counseling before being granted a divorce. I would state how counseling would benefit both parties after being granted the divorce. They would have better understanding of each other and maybe less conflict between the two.

  14. An argumentative essay is a persuasive essay with factual information. It means to be able to write the essay you'll need know exactly what you're talking about which means you'll need to do a lot of research on your topic. You want to be able to persuade the audience through the clear, concise writing. Not only that but you'll need to be able to back up and support your writing with factual evidence. I find this type of writing very serious topic.

"We should initiate a national health insurance program in the United States and model the program on successful one used in Europe."

I really believed that we should used this model for national health insurance. There are so many people suffering everyday in the United because they cannot afford health insurance. If the United States believed that we're all equal they should set up national health insurance for its citizen to show the equality for all classes. Like the European, Canadian, and Australian governments, they take care of their own people and citizen. If America is so great, why is that they can't even take care of their own people.

    1. Your definition of an argumentative essay is hammered down to my brain. That was a great way of defining it. Also, your choice of topic will be an awesome topic to write about. I always wondered why they call the United States never came up with a health insurance program for the homeless, poor, etc. Good luck!
