  1. Holy cow! The link that Dr.Rivera provided for us contains some self-help and academic help resources. These will be very beneficial for me, especially the time management and procrastination part of the site. It's very interesting, I'm glad that Dr. Rivera posted it for us to use.

As for today's activities, we did another brain stretcher again. Mine was kind of hard, so I had to do some research about it before I made my list. We also went in-depth on how to do MLA. I wish we got into it before we did our argumentative essay.

    1. I am glad we reviewed on the MLA form. Unfortunately, I did not include a works cited page in my test# 3. Having references in the textbook will help me prepare for the final test.

    2. Time management is also something I have a hard time on. I find myself doing things at the very last minute when it could have been done earlier. The advice stated will surely help us manage our time better. :)

    3. I felt the same way. The MLA way to citing resources would have help many of us in completing our argumentative essay. I wish that I would have looked at this lesson of the book while I was working on my sources. It would have saved me a lot of time.

    4. I think Dr. Rivera's link was relatively helpful, especially during this time of distress and long to-do lists. It helps us get a little more organized and also lets us take a break and relax before we stress again. I understand that your brain stretcher was tough during this class. I feel that the set for this session was much tougher than usual.

  2. Yes, the resource was very helpful. It shows you tips and strategies that can help you with solving problems. I found that motivating yourself is very helpful. I do not have motivation at times and it really effects me. In today's lesson, we did another ticket way out activity. I got a picture of the lake. Also, we went over arguments and did some exercises.

    1. Self-motivation is something that most students need. It is something that I need to do more often as well. There are days when I get too lazy that I have no motivation whatsoever.

      Delete
    2. I thought it was really cool that although you and Angelin both got the same picture your stories were completely different. I too have problems with motivation. I think that the lack of motivation in many people becomes the root of their procrastination. One good way to stay motivated is to plan a reward for yourself at the end of each task you complete. That is how I get most of my work done!

    3. Self-motivation is something that helps me get by in not only school, but life as well. Everyone always needs to feel motivated. It is what gives us the desire to do the things that will aid us in reaching higher heights. I hope that you will find something that will constantly motivate you. Things become much easier once you discover that driving force.

    4. I am glad that Dr. Rivera was able to ease your stress with the link she provided to her students. Also, I agree that motivating yourself is probably the biggest part. Even if the assignment is easy and won't take much time, sometimes it just takes the right motivation.

    5. You're definitely right with the self-motivation part. I only do what's necessary and never strive to be better. I guess in a way, the link can help us become more motivated to do better. Don't forget about the MLA exercise. That one was probably the most important thing we did in class.

  3. Today's activities were packed with excellent information that will really save us on our final exam and most importantly prepare us for EN110. Personally, I was having an especially difficult time citing in MLA because I am used to everything being done in APA format. However, our textbook was extremely informative on how to use citations in MLA correctly, which was a lesson I needed desperately. Additionally, the brain stretcher is always an interesting challenge and it's a nice break from the bookwork. I wasn't too fond of the activities today in class.. probably because I hardly got my turn, haha. Honestly, it was hard to stay focused and I guess I prioritized around my brain stretcher. Lastly, I have checked out the website attached and I must admit that the topics included on this page are very "time-relevant." By that, I mean that this is definitely the point in the semester where I need to manage my time, because I am stressed beyond belief with so much to do and I need to just calm it down and get stuff done....immediately. However, the information stated on the website is all things I already know. I am very organized and I do well at getting my tasks done. I liked seeing that my strategies towards success are the exact tips mentioned throughout the webpage. This way, I know I am on the right track, and I honestly feel very comfortable with the amount of progress I am making. The number one strategy I appreciated in this text was about looking at alternates when problem solving. For me, this is THE solution and it almost never fails. It's a good site.

    1. Yes, this is the time where I have the most stress. Since fall is ending and intersession is starting I need to get my grades done. Also, I need to focus and complete all my finals.

      Delete
    2. It is also difficult for me to cite in the MLA format, but learning it in class and with the book's help, it will definitely make things a little easier for me.

      Delete
    3. This really is a stress reliever since Dr. Rivera is giving us tips on how to manage our time well. All this information will go a long way with our studies.

    4. I'm glad to hear you have been successful in managing your time well so far. I have yet to master that skill yet. I also agree that this blog is perfect timing with everyone stressing over finals and deadlines this week. We can all use these tips to help us survive the last few days of the semester.

  4. The academic resource provided for us was very helpful. I have learned about all those things in my ID180 class. Time management is something that I have a problem with, but with the resource stating advice, it will definitely help me out when I am having trouble with many assignments due or exams coming up.

Today in class we learned about properly citing resources in the MLA format. I have learned how to cite since tenth grade, but I admit, I still get confused putting it in the right order. I am sure that with more practice, I will get the hang of it. Near the ending of class, we did the essay brain stretcher again. Everyone had creative stories or listings. I really enjoy doing this activity.

    1. I learned time management in my ID180 class as well. We had to log everything we did for three days. Through that activity, I found out that I waste all my time on driving from place to place. Also, citing can be challenging because if you just miss a period or comma, the whole citation is wrong.

      Delete
    2. I guess our ID180 professors are doing something right because we are all on the right track! Throughout the entire semester I was always fascinated with the way my ID180 professor talked about something I had just learned in Psychology or in English the day before. It was a new way of "studying" for me because I was being taught the same material twice.

      Delete
    3. I was also going to mention that I too learned these same strategies in our ID 180 course. In fact, a lot of these helpful hints are even self-explanatory. However, the best time management tip in my opinion is to make to-do lists and check them off to get an idea of how much you have time for and how to prioritize your given tasks. Also, no matter long we use citations, they will ALWAYS be a pain!

      Delete
    4. I'm so bad with time management. I think that it was good that we learn these things now so that we can improve. MLA format is so confusing because I am so used to APA. I use APA for my education courses and it's difficult to learn a new format.

      Delete
  5. I would usually think to myself that I would know how to be organized and prepared, especially since I know myself. The academic resource that was provided made me think again, and learn. I now know that I should continue to keep learning and pushing myself towards improvement. I really do manage my time well, but there are days where I make a few minor mistakes. I'm glad that Dr. Rivera provided us with that academic resource to help us further our knowledge and know what to expect academically and counter-act it as soon as I can.
It really refreshed my mind as we were practicing citing sources in MLA format. It helps me to continue remember it as I move on with English, because I know that I'll be needing it more and more as I continue to compose essays. I'm glad we had the practice. The brain stretcher at the end of class made my brain think deeper and expounded on what I already know. I'm glad Dr. Rivera is giving us all these resources and activities to help us.

    1. I'm also thankful Dr. Rivera has provided us with a lot of resources to look back on. I've saved a lot of the resources from our last blogs, especially the ones about common grammatical errors because I know they will be useful in the future. I also feel our textbook his a great guide for writing essays and how to make our writing stronger.

    2. I get confused about MLA format. Learning MLA will help on future English classes. I'm glad I got to see these tips and information. I learned about it already, but it helps to be reminded

    3. I am quite the opposite. I have a hard time getting things organized and managing my time well. Although, I do try at times to improve myself. With the resource provided and what I have learned in my ID180 class, it will help me with improvement for the next semester.

  6. The academic resource is very helpful for a guy like me. I'm very bad at time and task management. Having a full time job and being time student is hard to balance. With the help of this academic resource, I think I can improve my prioritizing skills. As for today's class I am thankful we went through citing of sources in MLA form. Understanding it alone is hard thing to do, but with the help of the class, I do understand how citing sources must be done correctly.

    1. I am also very bad at time management. I work full-time and go to school full-time as well so I find it hard to balance both sometimes. Making a daily and weekly schedule is really helpful though because it allows us to see what we need to get done.

      Delete
    2. I am glad that I am not alone on the poor time management boat! I don't have a job like you guys, but I am the world's best procrastinator! Siting sources can be very hard, and before today I always got confused when it came to the MLA format.

      Delete
    3. Balancing work and school is hard. Right after school, I go straight to work. I only have my break which is 30 minutes long to do my homework and study. Yes, understanding citations alone can be tricky because you do not have anyone that can help or teach you.

    4. I am glad that Dr. Rivera was able to help you with the academic source she provided for us. It sounds way stressful to be a full-time employee and a student at the same time. I am only a part-time employee and full-time student and i only have time to eat and sleep! I am glad that she was able to help you on your priorities. Also, MLA is hard but I am glad we're improving.

    5. I don't blame you. Citing is practically the hardest thing about writing an essay when using other people's stuff. It's a scary thing, too. You probably heard stories of how not properly citing will get you in serious trouble. Which is why I'm glad we went over it in class.

    6. I totally agree with you on that Ray. Being a full time student and going to school is not easy!

  7. This resource provided is very useful. I actually just wrote an essay on the subject of time management for my ID180 class so I was a little familiar with that subject. I wish I had this link for a reference also though.
Today's class was very informative. I know for the last test I didn't do as well because I didn't site my sources properly, so I'm glad we finally learned how in class. I also always enjoy the brain stretcher activities because we get to see everyone else's creative writing.

    1. I wrote my essay on time management too! I also didn't site my sources properly, and so I didn't get the grade I wanted, but I still did pretty good. I liked the brain stretcher that you came up with. I remember in high school when you joined the golf team. I liked that there was some real truth to your story.

    2. I had the same problem with my essay. Even though I was still able to receive a decent grade, I was disappointed in myself. I wish that we went over how to cite source in the MLA format. I think that would have helped with our grades. However, now we know how to cite sources for our next essay.

    3. I enjoy the brain stretcher too. I love listening to the stories that our classmates come up with. It's very amusing.

    4. Me three. I wrote mine on time management. x) I also feel the same way with the citation. I thought I had a very strong essay, but the citation hindered me from getting the grade that I really wanted.

    5. I wish we learned more about citing in class before our argumentative essay. It would have saved us a lot of trouble with the citing. I got red marks about not properly citing in MLA style. Mainly because I used the internet to try to understand it, but I guess the internet doesn't really have very reliable information sometimes.

    6. I also enjoy everyone's brain stretcher stories.
They are very interesting and knowing that you thought of it off the back makes it even more interesting.

  8. I find this site very resourceful! I remember going over time management and motivation in my ID180 class this semester. I know that I will refer back to this link in the future when my workload increases and I begin to get stressed out. My favorite part of class today was the brain stretcher. I really like hearing all the interesting stories that my peers come up with. I waited until almost everyone was gone to share my story. Even though I am a slam poet (performance poetry) I still get really nervous whenever I have to share my writing. I also liked the part where we went over the MLA format. I remember going over it in high school, but I never got the hang of it. I am glad we got to clear u my confusion today. I know that in the future I will be using the MLA notes in the textbook as a reference.

    1. I also enjoyed doing the MLA exercises. I'm glad the book provided a lot of examples that I can go back and review when doing another essay where I have to site. Overall this semester I have learned a lot of new things as well strengthened a lot of my writing skills because of the lessons in our book. I feel I am a lot more prepared for EN110 now than at the beginning of the semester.

Also, I'm glad you remembered to blog today because I was just about to call you.

    2. I went over time management and motivation in my ID180 class too. I felt that this resource was like a crash course on those topics. It covered everything I learned in my ID180 class this semester. I'm glad that you will refer to this when you are stressed out. Ir is always good to find ways that will alleviate your stress.

    3. Haha, yes. Majority of us did our essay on time management. xD

  9. THe academic resource was like a crash course for my ID180 class. Many of the things that were mentioned in the link were once discussed in my class. However, I still found the source to be very helpful. Time management seems like something all college students lack. Personally, I always find it difficult to follow a schedule.
As for today's activities, we covered a lot of things. I wish that we went over the using sources lesson before we had to do our argumentative essay. I think that particular lesson would have greatly helped many of us. Since we sped through the rest of the book, I don't remember much, but it was still a great learning experience.

    2. We are all guilty of having a poor time management skill somehow. I am just glad that we have professors that are willing to remind us that if we learn to manage time wisely, and more efficiently, then we can make it through.

    2. I wish I took ID180 this semester. Would have probably been useful for me to know all of the things you guys learned. The brain stretcher was pretty interesting. It keeps changing, so it really does exercise our minds to come up with different stories or ways to gather ideas.

  11. This reminds me of what I learned previously in my ID180 class. I have learned that these tips and strategies are not just something we can bookmark, it is an essential to reduce the amount of stress we experience throughout our college life, or even personal lives.

In class, I enjoyed our brain stretcher activities, because our imagination has no boundaries. It is healthy to make us of it sometimes. :)

  12. What I like about this class is that it makes our minds an academic resource instead of needing to rely on books etc. Our minds will always be around us and there's not much of a chance of it vanishing or getting destroyed.

  13. The site was very useful. Being a college student is stressful and sometimes we become so busy, we don't have the time to manage our time well or even have the time to relax. However, with this site, it now becomes easier.

  14. The activity has really just made me feel that we did learn a lot from EN-100. Towards the end of the session, when she was going through the book like it was a newspaper really caught my guard off because I couldn't keep up with her, but in the end it was just a refresher. Another brain stretcher to get out off class, I think my brain is getting tired of being stretched.

  15. The link provided contains some self-help and academic help resources. These will be very beneficial for me, especially the time management and procrastination part. It's very interesting, I'm glad that Dr. Rivera posted it for us to use. Especially since I did not take an ID180 class. Todays class activity was reading and the brain stretcher. Like I said I really enjoy doing brain stretchers, but todays brain stretcher was pretty challenging. So I decided to spice up my story with the whole mafia thing.
