  1. Today's class activities was something I learned before but it was a nice refresher class for me. I have a lot of experience with common mistakes in my grammar and punctuation. I always second guess myself when it comes to those kinds of errors. I think that this resource is going to be very helpful for me in the future.

    1. It is hard for me to avoid those grammatical errors. I do them without even knowing it.

    2. I make tons of grammatical errors. It's very hard to avoid.

    3. I think everyone makes common mistakes from time to time. That's why I think peer reviewing is an important step to do before writing your final draft because someone else's eyes can see something you overlooked.

    4. I also make many mistakes when it comes to my grammar and punctuation. This is why I'm glad that we have this resource now. We can always use it to check our writing and see if we used the proper grammar or punctuation. I am definitely going to use it for when I start to edit my argumentative essay.

    5. I am glad that today's topic were able to enrich your prior knowledge of classification. However, I bet your grammar is fine! You're a poet, aren't you? Poetry doesn't always follow average essay-writing styled grammar. You probably know a lot about different types of grammar and I bet it's easy to mix it all up. More power to you though (:

    6. I always second guess myself when it comes to punctuation, especially when using commas. These little errors are something that can be easily fixed.

  2. I did find this resource to be useful. It reminded me what to do the next time I double check my work. I usually combine singular and plural forms and make use of it in the wrong ways. There are several ways and simple mistakes people make because of simple problems like these which we need to be reminded of. Today's class activity really helped me understand errors we make during writing, especially since we were discussing it as a class. We learned how to classify things and break it down into groups to make things easier to look through and I thought that was helpful.

    1. Yes, I also appreciate this handy little correction guide. I believe we all as young writers are guilty of committing these common mistakes. However, I feel that many of the mistakes mentioned are also very elementary and shouldn't have to be corrected at a college-level writing style. I agree that today's activities really shined some light on classification. That method only helps to make us understand our work or given work efficiently.

    2. I tend to combine the plural and singular forms together as well. The resource provided will help as a reference to not make that mistake as much anymore. I actually found a lot of the examples useful because I know I've done all of them wrong at least once in my writing. This will really help in my growing as a writing.

    3. I'm glad that you find the resource to be useful to you. It is always great when we find something that will help us to work more efficiently. Hopefully, the link provided will lessen the simple mistakes that we make in our writing. Maybe one day, there will come a time when we won't need to use the resource because we learned how to avoid those common mistakes that are discussed in the link. This is why we must keep practicing to be better writers.

    4. The link is very helpful. It shows you some common errors we all make. This is so that we will avoid making them in further essays.

    5. The resource was great as a refresher and also a simple guide. These little mistakes that we make may not be noticed sometimes. It can add up and cost us to lose out on some points when writing.

  3. I found the resources useful. They are useful because it helps me find and fix my mistakes. I make mistakes like these every now and then. In class, I learned about classification. Classification is grouping words into different categories. The exercises I did in class were easy. I had no trouble with them.

    1. I thought the resource was very useful too. It really does make you realize the common mistakes that you make when writing and it helps to be reminded of what not to do when writing an essay.

  4. I thought the resource was useful. It helps me to figure out the mistakes that I make when writing. I do make a lot of mistakes that were mentioned in the resource. Today's lesson was something that I learned how to do a long time ago. It was a good refresher and I think that practice is good.

    1. I also make a lot of the mistakes that were mentioned. I am going to keep using that resource for future writing just to make sure that I don't repeatedly make the same mistakes. In regards to today's lesson, I also found it very useful. Although it was an easy task, it was still a great activity to do. Like you said, practice is good.

    2. I've made a lot of these mistakes in my writing as well. Usually I can catch them when editing my papers myself, but some mistakes I tend to still overlook. I also liked today's class activities because it allowed us brainstorm for the classes in each exercise.

    3. I still do the same grammatical errors, but it is by accident.

  5. I found that link very helpful. After reading the examples of the right and wrong way to write sentences showed that I sometimes don't follow those rules. I'm going to save this link and refer to it when doing the stage three strategy in my writing.

Today's lesson was about classification. I found this lesson as a good refresher and will also be helpful when trying to organize my information for my essay to the right groups. We also talked about Test#4 and I'm relieved to know that it can be a take home test. I'll be able to spend more time in my essay instead of having to rush and forget some key points when taking it in class.

    1. I also found the link to be helpful. I wish I had that guide in middle school. I feel that the mistakes shown in the webpage are of carelessness and habit when writing. We don't notice we make those mistakes but they're always present. Anyway, it's a good thing we know how to fix them now. I think it's great that you saved the link. I think I might actually be relieved that this test is a take-home exam as well. As much as I was rooting for an in-class exam, 40 minutes is not nearly enough for me to get my point across in my writing as efficiently and as passionately as I'd like to, so I changed my vote. I thought I didn't have time but hey...might as well make time!

    2. I'm also relieved that Test #4 will be a take home exam. I think that I will be able to write a finer essay if I do it in a setting where I am not pressured by so many factors like time. When writing my essay for our upcoming test, I will definitely use the resource that has been provided to us. I believe that it is something that will help to improve our skills in writing. It will be especially beneficial when we get to stage three of the writing process because that is where all the editing and revising take place.

    3. Glad you had a change of mind, Monica! And yes, the time constraint puts a lot of pressure on me. Instead of remembering what I wrote in my essay, I could not stop thinking about how much time I have left, and I also tend to look at how others are doing. I see others getting a headache, and some still thinking. It's fun, but time consuming. Not a good habit at all

  6. I often find myself making many of the common mistakes that are found in the resource provided. I learned a lot of things when I went through the content. It will now be easier for me to edit my own writing and provide better feedback for when I peer review. As for today's lesson, I also found what we learned about classification very useful. It will assist me when it comes to writing outlines for my essays. Overall, I believe that all this information proves to be extremely beneficial when it comes to improving our writing skills.

    1. I am delighted that Dr. Rivera's resource became of use for you. I liked how straightforward the content was and the direct examples. However, I didn't consider how that guide could help us with our editing skills. Great idea. And I didn't necessarily keep in mind that classification could benefit us when writing outlines, which is another great point you made. Awesome post and keep up the good work!

    2. That is true, classification makes writing outlines easier.

  7. Today's class activities seemed generally easy, nothing we've never tried before. I did enjoy getting to use my own critical thinking skills or my own creativity to answer the activities instead of having to read a paragraph and find them like usual. Also, I love that each person in the class gets at least one chance to contribute to the class discussions, even if it just reading a section or sharing their answer. On another note, according to the URL attached, I have now been exposed to common errors in writing. These tips are especially helpful because they are either habitual resorts when writing or they are parts an average person stumbles upon and questions correct from incorrect. For example, I am guilty of overuse in commas. I write as if I'm talking and I pause a lot when I talk. It was the way I was taught. Therefore, being reminded to only use commas when necessary is a great tip to keep in mind. Additionally, I really appreciate these tips clarifying when and where apostrophes are due. Personally, I struggled with this in elementary school and mastered in middle school; I don't think I have had a problem with it since. However, when I peer edit, I never fail to find a writer making this common mistake so I appreciate that it is being pointed out.

    1. I found today's class activities easy as well. I am pretty sure that whoever is introduced to this topic will gasp onto it quickly.

I also tend to overuse commas in my writing. I sometimes second guess myself if a comma should be placed or not and just end up writing it in. The resource provided will help me use commas only when necessary.

    2. Yes, among all the common mistakes in writing, the over usage of commas ranks number one. I see it in my work, and other people's essays.

Today's class activity was not difficult in any way at all. Classification is already embedded in our heads. It is something that we've learned even before we went to pre-school. In my opinion, classification in it's purest form is simply knowing the difference.

    3. I like the fact that we all get to participate in discussions, as well. I think that it makes us know each other a little more and socialize.

Overusing commas is the same thing that I do, I use them mainly because I feel like it somehow belongs. Hopefully we become better at this by referring to the attached. I honestly thought that it wasn't a big deal until I read the common mistakes in writing.

It was straight to the point and easy to understand. The exercises, that followed afterwards, were simple. It showed if we understood the topic well.

  11. I found this source of information very useful. The most common mistake I make is combining singular and plural forms of words into the same sentence. I did not know I was incorrect this whole time, now I do. Very useful information !
