  1. In my own words a descriptive essay is a type of essay that involves describing a topic in depth and giving details. Among the topics listed, i selected a topic relating to scenery, a rainy day. I chose this topic because describing a scene such as a rainy day can be best described with using all the five sense.
In today's activity we learned the first stage of the writing process. This stage involved free writing, brainstorming, and clustering. Using these techniques helped me organize my thoughts and ideas in preparation in writing my essay. I hope to use these techniques in future assignments to help me in my work.

    3. Your definition of a descriptive essay is simple, but very informative! A topic relating to scenery would have been my second choice for the same reasons.

    4. Yes, that is what a descriptive essay basically is, to describe a certain topic in depth. I like the you've chosen by the way. A rainy day, something we've been experiencing recently. I also hope to be able to use the techniques we've learned for future assignments.

  2. I would define a descriptive essay as a type of essay that requires you to use your senses and point of view to depict or elaborate on a certain topic in depth, that can be about almost anything from your simple experiences in life to your favorite person or object. From the topics listed, I chose the topic about my home town. The reason why I chose this topic was because of the many different events I encountered that made me experience the joys of living. These can only be describe after fully undergoing them personally.
Today's class session was very informative. We learned all about the first stage of the writing process which involved free writing, writing without stopping and letting your ideas flow out. Another which is brainstorming, to quickly develop key words and phrases that relate to your topic. And lastly clustering, a way to show the connections within your topic. I wasn't familiar clustering so I d=had a hard time keeping up but I'll get use to it. I hope that I'll be able to properly use these techniques for my future essays.

  3. A descriptive essay is something that is used to describe a certain topic thoroughly. Being very detailed about something such as using your five senses to describe a topic, etc. In the topics listed, I chose learning a music instrument. I chose this because I know what it's like to go through that experience. I know how fulfilling it can be to finally learn how to play favorite songs and such.
In today's class, we learned about the first step of the writing process and it was actually stuff I have seen but not fully learned. My teacher in the 8th grade actually made us do free writing as a warm up to getting our minds ready for class. I didn't think that it could be used to get your ideas out in the open. Brainstorming and clustering can also be very helpful when first trying to figure out what to write for an essay.

  5. In my words, descriptive essay is a free-writing essay in which the writer may elaborate their thoughts and describe specific details on any certain topic based on their choice. From the topics listed, I chose what relates to my feelings, which is falling in-love. I chose this topic because usually I write my emotions down in a journal, and letting my emotions out always makes me feel better. Therefore, choosing this topic will give me a easier time to jot down my ideas and emotions.
Today's lesson was about the first stage of the writing process and the strategies involved such as free writing, brainstorming, clustering, and gathering information. Discussing this lesson in class was very helpful because it helps the writer get started on developing their ideas and a clear thought on what to write about.

    5. True, basically in a descriptive essay you are describing the topic as you perceive it, in all it s details, etc. I also agree with you, that it's better to let out your feelings instead of keeping them in. I also learned a lot after that session and I will use those techniques to better my writing abilities.

  6. In my words my definition of a descriptive essay is a story telling essay, in which the writer goes into detail in describing the environment surrounding the main character. One example would be the setting before a main characters' journey; where the character was born, his or her house, her parents, and so forth. The author may also go as far as describing what the characters' face may have looked like, or the color of her hair. In doing so the author paints a mental picture in his/her readers minds of the story the author wants to tell. From the topics listed, I chose falling in-love as my topic. From the list there were only a few topics that I could really relate to, and in the end this topic to me was the most personal and therefore I think it'll be easier for me to write about. Today's lesson was about free writing, brainstorming, clustering, and gathering information. The lesson was a great way for me to review on these skills that I've learned when I was in elementary school, because in high school I never really used them as much as I should have.

  8. A descriptive essay really what it already says, an essay that is descriptive about a certain topic in which the essay describes.
I would describe my passion for music. Why? because music is my hobby and i have great experience when it comes to this topic. Not only do I sing and play an instrument, but I also am very aware to the language of music. So describing just about anything when it comes to music is easy for me, especially because i have a passion for it.
listing, brainstorming, etc., the things that we learned today was a lot of fun and very familiar. I haven't brainstormed with a topic for a while, so this was a great way to refresh my ideas and continue to brainstorm even more.

  10. According to my understanding, a descriptive essay is a type of essay that used to make a topic more vivid. They make the topic seem real by adding adjectives and the five senses. Out of all the topics given, I would choose topics relating to things because it is easier to describe an object.
In today's lesson, we learned about the first stage of the writing process. It is the stage that is used to gain and organize ideas. the techniques that will help you do this is free writing, brainstorming, listing, and clustering. I believe free writing will be really helpful to me. It will help me keep ideas flowing instead of getting stuck.

  11. In my own words a descriptive essay is an essay that is used to describe something or someone using what the person sees, feels, smells, etc. For example if someone was under a tree reading they'd probably be saying stuff like: "the air was comforting", or the smell of the flowers was delightful. Any way for a reader to get as close to the narrators settings as possible.
If i was describing something it probably be how i play sports. It would be my perspective on how it felt, and other ways that only i can feel and see it in my own views. And although i wasn't in class reading my other class members responses tells me they learned about making a first draft which would be free writing, listing, and brainstorming ideas to make an essay "flow" efficiently for a reader. This lesson I am familiar with from my composition class in high school which helps my essays.

    1. Also my topic is a historical person because, you can look back on people and share your opinion on a persons actions and ideals and how they affected you, your family, race, the world, etc. For example "George Bush" some people think he's evil, and some think he was right in his administration and a descriptive essay would tell how you would describe him.

  12. A descriptive essay is a type of writing that is used to describe something in great detail. It makes use of the major senses to give the reader an idea of what is being experienced or described.
Out of the three topics, I would choose learning a musical instrument because I have experienced what it is like when I learned how to play the guitar.
In class we learned the stage one strategies of free-writing, brainstorming, and clustering. I remember when my teachers in middle school would have us practice brainstorming and clustering before we write an essay. The lesson was a good way to refresh my memory, and I think that
practicing these strategies will help me make my essays a lot more clear and effective.

  13. From my understandings, a descriptive essay is a type of essay in which the writer uses his or her own senses and experiences to discuss a certain topic. The essay, for the most part, is based on the person's experiences and feelings alone. It does not necessarily me that they speak for others. Descriptive essays just show the topic the writer's point of view.
I would chose the topic of sports. During my high school years I was involved in some sports. I, personally, have been on both sides of the spectrum. I know what it feels like to win and be successful, but I also know what it feels like to fail and lose. From my experiences I can tell the reader what mistakes I made and how I learned from them and used them to work for future success.

  14. A descriptive essay is one in which a writer must use their personal experiences and knowledge to portray a certain scenario. It is not necessarily saying that one is speaking to another individuals. Rather just describing a certain topic from a certain point of view.
The topic I chose is my personal experience with the discipline of children. I chose this because I have a good understanding of the effect of discipline as well as the effects of not having discipline.
