Today's class was very productive. I was excited to see my Test #2 results. Also, learning about the Test #3 modification was such a relief. I feel that we don't have enough time to learn enough new material, let alone study before test #3. Also, my issues with taking the tests was the time constraint. When I put my heart into writing an essay, it cannot be done in twenty minutes. I feel so thankful that we will have an extended amount of time for the essay of test #3 next week so I will be able to cover my material in the best way that I can.
ReplyDeleteThe writing activities for process analysis seemed a bit insignificant in comparison to other topics and strategies we have covered in this class. Maybe I have misinterpreted the lesson, but I feel that it is common sense and especially good writing habit to keep in mind the steps and sequence while writing in accordance to order. I was flustered with the "oil change" exercise considering I had no prior knowledge of it. Also, the outline exercise seemed too basic. I feel that either I didn't experience the lesson as full-out as I needed to in order to really understand it, or maybe we covered it too fast. However, I do agree regardless of the exercises that sequence and steps are crucial to writing, especially with time-order organization.
It is a relief to find that test 3 will only be an essay because I do not think I will be prepared if it was not.
DeleteI am glad test 3 is only an essay test. I know tho that it would be fun and its a good way to test how well you can write.
DeleteFinally, the modification will buy us some time to proofread our work! For me that is
DeleteThe oil-change topic did seem insignificant only because I had no knowledge prior to this exercise. Though, the sequence of the steps seem to be useful when organizing ideas just like an outline.
DeleteI usually rush through the essay part of a test because of the short time we have left after finishing the first part. With those modifications made, we will for sure have a better essay!
DeleteDue to the time we have, it's good to hear our Test 3 will be all about essay. This is a good news for us in order for us to focus our essay.
DeleteI also felt the relief about the next test. I am so glad that it will just be an essay rather than the question part of the exam. I, like Monica, probably wouldn't be too prepared for it.
DeleteI have heard of the direct and informative process analysis before reading about it in class. I know what they're about, but I just never figured out what they were called. So nothing new with it, but it is interesting to know about how to change oil in a car. Even though I didn't fully understand it.
ReplyDeleteWhen I got the test 2 results back, I was extremely excited! I got a passing grade of 75%. I did not get a passing grade for the first test, so I was incredibly happy to finally get it on the second.
I think we all got good grades on our essays. I got a 4 and I was not expecting that.
DeleteI find oil changing to be interesting too, though a bit useless when you're in an English class. I was also happy that I got a passing grade too. I was a bit worried that I failed even though I studied. The wording seem to throw me off a bit.
DeleteI think that the oil changing was the most interesting part of class. I am glad that I know a little bit about it now. Every girl should know something about our cars and not a lot of us do. Its good to see that I am not the only girl seeking knowledge about these things.
DeleteYes, this lesson was actually quite simple. If anything, it was self-explanatory but it was nice to have the lesson more specified so we could better understand it.
DeleteI'm really glad to hear you passed the test!
I can say that it was a lot easier to understand this new chapter. It really is quite simple and very self-explanatory to understand. I can be honest and say that this test was a lot easier and well challenging, but in the end I passed with a good grade. It is really cool to hear that you passed the test with that grade. Good job.
DeleteToday's discussion was kind of interesting because I looked at it like some kind if puzzle, like the excercise we had on the steps on a oil change. But most of all felt much better when I saw my test grade. Surprisingly on the essay I hear that the highest score was a 4 but I got a 3++ which made me think should of just given me a 4.'
ReplyDeleteI think a 3++ is like a 4. Probably, you had some errors making it not a 4 material.
DeleteHahahha, 3++, that is awesome, but at the same time why couldn't it just be a 4?? x) Anyways, good job!
DeleteI had a 3++ too! I was a bit dissatisfied, I might have well gotten a 4.
Delete3++ probably meant minor mistakes made on your essay such as missing or wrong use of punctuation. Great job though!
DeleteFor me the test grade was one of the most exciting moments in class. I didn't do so great on the last test and it was such a great relief to see that I got an A on this one. I am looking forward to taking the next test because it is only an essay. Strangely enough the essay part of our tests are my favorite parts;.
DeleteI also got a 3++. what the heck?!
Delete3++? That's... an interesting grade.
DeleteI like how you thought the exercise was similar to a puzzle. I haven't thought about it, but it does make sense to think of it that way. Rather than just trying to answer the questions, we had to figure out the next procedure and think about why it should be next.
At first, I knew nothing of process analysis. Today's lesson introduced me to this new material. My first impression of the test results were not positive. I thought that test 2 was a bit harder than test 1. I was surprise that I got a higher grade in test 2. Also, I am relieved that test 3 will only be an essay. At least I can focus more into my writing than struggling to study both notes and essay.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised, too. I also got higher results in test #2 than test #1, even though I feel like I studied more for test #1. I'm glad you improved! :D
DeleteI agree, test 2 seemed a bit harder. I had a lower grade on test 2. I guess that means that I have to keep studying. I'm glad that test 3 will be focused on the essay, so that I don't have to stress myself with the writing guidelines.
DeleteI am also glad that it will only be an essay! It gives us the opportunity to focus on the essay more, which may result in getting good grades!
DeleteI guess test 1 was much harder because i didnt get to study that much as studying for test 2. And I was kind of hoping that the next test would have been just notes only.
DeleteI actually felt Test#2 was easier than Test#1 only because I was prepared more with the kind of test we would be taking. I think the study guide was a big help in my grade being high for Test#2 as well. Thankfully next test is going to focus only on our essays. However, I have a feeling we might be graded more diligently because of all the preparation we have to show.
DeleteI was surprised also on how test number three is only an essay.
DeleteI agree with you. It is difficult to study the content of the book as well as memorizing your essay. I think that Test #3 will definitely be easier than our previous tests. We won't have to worry about forgetting important information for the test. The writing process worksheet will certainly help us as well, so I think that we all will pass Test #3.
DeleteI share your joy when I heard about test 3 being essay only. I did better on my essay portion in test 2 than the question portion. However, I'm having difficulty trying to figure out my topic for test 3. I wonder if I'll be ready for it. I hope we pass!
DeleteOur class meeting today was very interesting to me. We got a chance to look at a new chapter in the book and I can say I have learned a lot from this chapter. This chapter on process analysis is very new to my knowledge, I thought it would of been a chapter that might be hard. Later in class as we conducted some of the activities on this chapter, it seemed well understood to my point and I picked it up fast. I am glad tho that our next test will be an essay test. This is where I will test how good I can create a essay and by using the steps. My test # 2 was not that exciting for me, but for sure the next test i will improve.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your test results. I learned a lot from this chapter as well. You are right, it was an easy lesson.
DeleteDefinitely improve! Next test, we'll have more time to focus and proofread our work. :) Good luck!
DeleteHopefully we will all do better on the next test. We have a lot of time to improve our writing skills and get ready for the test.
DeleteI think majority of us are thankful next test's format has changed to focus mainly on our writing skills. To have the steps be a part of our test I think is actually going to help us a lot because they're framework for our essay and it'll help us write it clean and organized. I think we all have to prep before the test and gather enough facts we need beforehand to write our essays well.
DeleteI thought that today's lesson was going to be hard as well, but it turned out to be pretty easy. I think it was because we were seeing a lot of what we previously learned being repeated. Like when the example went over the writing process. It made the new material we were learning easier to understand and relate to because we've done it before without realizing it.
DeleteI also feel like this chapters has tasks and strategies, as well as new concepts that I can grasp much easier than Chapters 1-7. It's almost unfortunate that we will not be tested on this material for Test #3 since it could be easier. However, maybe it's a relief that we have more time for our essays now. I feel you and I really struggled with the time hack.
DeleteI don't recall learning about the two kinds of process analysis, although I already had an idea what a process analysis is. Nonetheless, today's class session was exciting, because it seemed like everyone in class participated.
ReplyDeleteIn regards to test #2, I was surprised that I did well on the essay. It boosted my grade up to an A. I did not do so well on the first part, due to the lack of focus, but I am thankful that I was still able to make it up on the second part of the test.
Now, I'm preparing for test #3, and hopefully maintain that grade for my next test results.
Good luck Everyone!
I hope to maintain my A as well! With more focus on just the essay, it will give us more time to study without having the chapter reviews get in the way. Good luck to you too!
DeleteI think everyone was participating because we are finally feeling comfortable talking to each other.
DeleteI also got an A on the test thanks to the essay portion. I was happy with my grade and glad my writing skills improved from the first test.I'm also preparing for Test#3 so I won't take too much time doing all the processes during the test.
DeleteHonestly, this topic feels like something that isn't necessarily significant, but nonetheless, something we simply must take time to learn about. However, I agree. I did enjoy the class involvement and I enjoy creating a bond with my classmates. It makes me feel more comfortable around the people who peer-edit my papers.
DeleteWow! An A? I'm so jealous! My essay portion of test 2 managed to get me a passing grade. I didn't do well on the questions myself, so I'm glad that my essay boosted my grade enough for me to pass. Hopefully we'll all do well on our next test!
DeleteI was a bit confused with the activity involving "changing car oil." I didn't find the topic very helpful, thought the strategy of knowing chronological order was very helpful. It gives you sequence of events so that you don't jumble useful steps and turn it into nonsense.
ReplyDeleteMy test #2 results weren't as good as I hoped, but I know that I deserved that grade. I am now preparing for the next test so that I get a well deserved grade.
After hearing about Test #3 modifications, I was so happy. Now I don't have to multitask with learning the reading guidelines & working on my essay. I can use this time to prepare for my essay.
I think the topic needed to be something that everyone would know about like: how to brush your teeth. I'm happy about test # 3 as well because I feel it would be easier.
DeleteI agree with Sharleen. Perhaps another example other than the changing car oil would benefit you more. I can understand why you didn't find it helpful, since not everyone can relate to it. Good luck on test 3!
DeleteI was unfamiliar with today's topic on process analysis, but it was very easy to comprehend. I found that the exercise on oil change was a bit useless since I will never do that, but it gave me an idea of how process analysis works. Also, that certain things must be done in the right procedure or it may not turn out the way it should be.
ReplyDeleteI was excited to get my Test #2 back to see how I did. It turned out better than I expected. I definitely made progress on the essay part! As for test #3, I was happy to hear about the modifications. With those modifications, it will allow me to focus more on my essay. I hope to get a good grade on it!
Yeah, I think that with our focus only being on one thing, we will all probably do so much better. Good luck!
DeleteProcess analysis was definitely something new to learn. I don't think that I have heard of this type of writing. It was great to learn it though. I believe that it will help us with our future writings if we ever need to describe step by step procedures to someone. I am also glad that you are making progress in your essay writing. Your hard work is paying off!
DeleteToday's lesson was quite short and very straight to the point. I didn't know anything about today's lesson, but the class reading and exercises really helped a lot. The oil change paragraph was a bit hard because I knew nothing about changing oil. However, I did see the point it was trying to make about how putting things in chronological order would make it easier.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised that I did okay on test #2 because I felt that I failed. I was glad to see that my essay got a 4. I did better on this test than the first one. Hearing that test #3 will be focused on the writing process made me feel better about taking it. I feel like I will do better because I am better at writing than I am at remembering terms and such.
I also didn't know anything about changing oil so I used my phone to google it and that's how I got all my answers. Although I wasn't familiar in the topic, I saw the concept on how if something isn't put in the right order then it'll cause problems in our writing.
DeleteI was also surprised that I did as well as I did on Test#2. I knew I left some answers blank but overall I was still satisfied with my grade. I'm hoping Test#3 I also do good on.
I agree with Sharleen, the lesson was a bit short and straight to the point.and I agree on how she sees process analysis. to put everything in order.
DeleteI agree. Honestly, I don't really care for the short lessons because I don't enjoy being held back from leaving a class if all the business is already taken care of. I feel that after the material has been covered and all questions are answered, students should be allowed to leave. Also, I didn't care for the oil change activity either. It had hardly relevance towards our lesson, in my opinion. However, I agree that test #2 was a much better experience.
DeleteToday's lesson was short but fun. The lesson today was familiar for me because we had this type of writing process on my EN085 Lab. It's a good refresher for my memory about this topic. However, the oil change exercise was a bit hard for me even though I took an automotive course during high school. On the test, I think I better have more focus on my essay, so I can have a better score than 3.
ReplyDeleteI really liked today's lesson. I now know the steps on how to change oil in my car, if I ever decide to do it on my own. It's important when writing to make sure you have the steps and processes in order so your work isn't confusing also.
ReplyDeleteI was happy with my test grade for Test #2. It was a lot better than my Test #1 grade. I was also relieved that Test#3 is going to be like the writing process worksheet. This is going to help me a lot when writing my essay to make sure all my ideas for my topic is organized and is well written.
Just like I told Nichole, I'm glad that your test grade improved. I am also happy to know that our next test will mainly focus on our essay. The content questions for the first part of the test are fairly easy, but I think it's best to just focus on the essay part. With the writing process worksheet, I think that the test will be a breeze for most of us. We have something to guide us and make sure we stay on task.
DeleteI enjoyed today's lesson a lot. I not only learned about process analysis, but I also learned how to change the oil in my car. I think that both are important pieces of information that everyone should know. I was especially excited to get my test grade back. I am so glad that I got a good grade this time around because last time I did really bad. I am also thankful that our next test is going to be an essay. I am good at writing essays and I hope that I will do well on the next one we have to write.
ReplyDeleteI also learned how to change oil when needed. :)
DeleteI too thought that the oil changing exercise was very helpful and fun. I never knew that changing your car oil could be so easy. I also was happy with my test grade. It was a big step up from my last grade. I'm glad to see that you are improving in your test-taking. It's great to hear good news from people.
DeleteTodays class was productive. I felt like I actually did something today. I think I deserved the grade I got on test number two. Process analysis seems quite confusing to me. maybe if I just practice a bit more on process analysis like trying to figure out the units and principles, etc, I will understand it more. I'm glad that test number three will have abit more time added, all I got to do is review.
ReplyDeleteToday's activities were very interesting. I'm still unsure about some of the parts of the process analysis lesson, but I'm sure that I will be able to better understand it once I review it. The highlight of today's class was when we received our Test #2 grades. I was very pleased with what I got. It was definitely an improvement from my last test grade. I am also very excited for Test #3. I think it will be easier to work on because it will mainly focus on our writing. I won't have to concentrate on anything else other than my essay, so that makes things a lot less difficult. Overall, I enjoyed today's class.
