My thoughts on taking Test#1 are that it was an easy test if you know it. I studied for it, but there were some questions I blacked out on. How I prepared was I would repeat a certain section multiple times when ever I had free time. For example, when I am at work and we are not busy, I would look over my book and study the same section for a bit until I remember it. Once I know it, I would go on to the next section.
ReplyDeleteI blacked out on a lot of questions also.
DeleteI should have done that, honestly I didn't even open my book. I didn't think the test would be that difficult, but I was so wrong.
DeleteI blacked out a lot too. I knew the answers, but I couldn't remember them.
DeleteI also blanked out on some questions, but I tried my best to answer them. Now that we have an idea of what the tests may look like again, we will for sure get a better grade if we study hard.
DeleteI blanked out on the first few questions. They were very confusing for me, so I decided to skip it and return to the question later.
DeleteI honestly thought the test was pretty hard. The way the questions were worded really confused me. I didn't understand half of the test, but I tried my best. My initial reaction to the test was "What the hell is this?! Where was I the whole time we learned this stuff?" I remember learning it, but sadly, my brain lacks the ability to retain important information. Needless to say, I was well underprepared for this test. I will most definitely study harder for the next one. I'll pay more attention and take better notes. I will also sit away from Chelsea in class..... maybe.
ReplyDeleteI was confused also and asked myself the same questions. I was thinking stuff like, "Was this even in the book," and "What does this even mean?" I felt so lost.
DeleteEspecially the essay part, my topic was not even there. It really sucked on my part.
DeleteI couldn't understand this test well. At least I know now what to do the next time we have a big test like this.
DeleteI was confused with how the questions were worded also. Some of them sounded like the same questions being asked. In my mind I was thinking the test was going to be kind of like a SAT10 kind of test where we would apply the skills we learned in class on an essay or something, but I was wrong. I think I just studied the wrong way for this test and that's why I felt I didn't do as good as I should've.
DeleteI guess for the most part, being active in the class discussions could be more useful. Also paying attention is a problem for me. I tend to zone out during classes. haha
DeleteI think I was a bit of both. I studied the writing guidelines at the end of each chapter and answered what I could. I should have read the rest of the chapter. The questions that I could not answer were in the chapter and not in the guidelines. Now that I know you put almost everything in the chapters in the test, I will pay more attention in class.
ReplyDeleteLOL, straight up. I need to pay more attention in class too! No more moodle for us Chels. We need to get our patooties to class and turn on our hyperfocus.
DeleteYeah, I guess we can't fully rely on the writer's guidelance, but also take time to read through the chapters, maybe take notes in class while we read through our lessons.
DeleteI should have taken the time to read through the chapters too. Going to the moodles and blogs would really help.
DeleteThe writing guidelines were very helpful for me, who studied last minute in class (right before the test haha.) Though, a lot of questions didn't involve the guidelines too. So yet again, very confusing..
DeleteTest #1 was pretty long. I was confused most of the time but I did my best. I really wasn't prepared for the test. Next time I would take more time to study and really understand our book. I need to understand our lessons in class and need to spend more time reading.
ReplyDeleteIt was long! Haha, and I agree, I need to pay more attention in class and to the lessons.
DeleteI wasn't prepared as well. I was honestly hoping the test would be easy.
DeleteThe test was actually all in our writer's guideline, or the summary at the end of each chapter, but I agree that we still need to pay attention in class and the lessons.
DeleteI agree with you. The test was pretty long. My hand kept hurting from all the writing that I had to do. It seems like we all need to study hard for the next test. I don't think anyone was expecting the test to be so detailed.
DeleteI thought the test would be multiple choice and not Q/A.
DeleteI didn't expect the test to be that long as well. When I got the test papers, I knew I was going to take up the whole class time to finish it.
DeleteThat was a pretty long test. Good thing we prepared for the essay. I should have done better with the other 50% of the test though.
DeleteIt was a pretty long test. A lot of the questions, I believe, were short answer essays? That took most of my time and didn't allow me to fully write my essay.
DeleteI swear, if i did not have a study guide on the writing guidelines for chapters 1-4, I wouldn't have known anything. Even so, I only studied yesterday and this morning. I see the patter of our exam now, focus on the writer's guidelines at the end of each chapter, that is where the questions on our test was based from. I just hope we all pass.
ReplyDeleteI didn't study and I found the test really difficult. But you're right, nw that I've seen the formatting of the tests, I think it'll help me study better. I hope we all passed too! Good luck everyone!
DeleteI think now that I know the format of the test, I will probably do better next time as well.
DeleteYes, if she continues to format our tests with the use of the writer's guidelines, it'll be easier for all of us to study for the next test. Let's also pay attention to the practices she gave us on the blog, like the Narrative essay practice.
DeleteI only studied the writer's guidelines and it greatly helped me. I wouldn't have been able to get through the test if I did not review the end of each chapter. If the rest of our tests will be based on the writer's guidelines then I'm not going to worry about studying too hard. I want all of us to pass as well. If our scores don't meet our expectations then at least we know what to improve on.
DeleteI also saw that most of the question's answers were on the writer's guidelines at the end of each chapter.
DeleteI will definitely study more of the writer's guidelines for our future tests. I went over the guidelines before the test, but for some that I didn't know the answers to, I just skipped- which obviously wasn't a good idea. I honestly didn't know how our test was going to be like, so now that I know that it's all short answer question, I think I'll be able to study more efficiently for the next one.
DeleteI thought the test was quite difficult and a bit confusing. I forgot that there was a test and only remembered at the last moment. I think that if I had studied, I would have been more confident. While I was reading the questions, I knew what the answers were, but I just couldn't remember them. Next time, I'll be sure to study more.
ReplyDeleteI hope you had enough time to study despite forgetting about the test. I had the same problem when I was going through the questions. I knew that I had the answers, but I couldn't quite figure out what to write on my paper. I think that we all need to study harder for the next test. We should create a study group so that we can better prepare for our next exam.
DeleteI feel the same way girl. Hopefully the next test would have multiple choice or true/false.
DeleteI think we all thought the test would be different. Personally, I didn't think we were expected to know exactly what stages all the strategies were in. In fact, how would you even know? Most of them were the same anyway! It was kind of difficult to classify them all. I forgot there was a test too, so I went to the library and studied before class and honestly, that did me all the justice in the world. The best thing, however, was paying attention in class. Even if you didn't do the work, they discussed it in class and that was all practically the answers.
DeleteThat test was very confusing. I felt like I knew the answers, but I wasn't confident about it. I suppose that's what I get for trying to study at the last minute. I really hope I do pass. My essay might pull through for me in getting a passing grade. Next time, I thoroughly study the material more and hope that I don't blank out.
ReplyDeleteWe can have study sessions together! As a class. :)
DeleteI also felt like I knew the answers to most of the questions, but wasn't sure if they were correct. However, I just wrote them down anyways. I only truly studied the morning of the test. Looking back at it now, I don't think that was a great idea. I probably would've done better if I put more time into studying.
DeleteYes, a study session sounds good. It should be a day before the test. At least the material will still be sort of fresh in our minds.
DeleteI agree as a class to have a study session would help not just one of us to past a test but as a whole class to all succeed is much better. I beleive that studying in a group can help everyone improve with their writing and studying habits. As I continued my MyReadingLab it had brought something to my attention, that it is better to study in a group rather then by yourself. Because it brings more interest to the subject which you are studying for and not bring boredom.
DeleteThe test really made me think of what I should do next time to improve.
DeleteI felt the first test was pretty hard for me. I was pretty confident at first, but the first page kind of threw me off. I think for the next test I will need to spend more time reading through the book and not just the guidelines.
ReplyDeleteThe first page confused me also. I was confused with the vocabulary used in the questions so I wasn't confident in answering them. Other parts brought back memory and I was confident in answering them, but then as I went on to other questions I had to stop and look back because I felt like it was the same question just reworded differently.
DeleteI thought that Test #1 was actually pretty easy. The review that we had during the previous class greatly helped me with my studying. The only thing I was worried about was the essay section of the test. I didn't feel as though my essay was good enough. For our next test, I will probably study more. I only went through my study guide the day of the test. Hopefully, we all will get decent grades and improve our preparations for the next test.
ReplyDeleteI as well came into the previous class day when we were having a review. It sure did help me out a lot! I felt like my essay wasn't as good either.
DeleteLol I thought so too that the test would be easy but it hit me pretty hard as I was taking the test...
DeleteI think I'm going to start attending Dr. Rivera's class on Moodle days also because after this test I feel like I need to get all the extra time practicing and reviewing I can. The essay portion for me was actually one of the easiest. I was most worried about the time it would take me to write it, but I ended up finishing before class ended. If I knew I was going to be that fast, I would've done my clustering before the essay again to make sure all my ideas were organized. I didn't put as much information as I did on my draft before the test though, so I was a little disappointed because of that.
DeleteI don't want to say that I thought the test was easy because God forbid I jinx myself and get a failing grade but for the most part it went over pretty smoothly because I had reviewed the night before and then again before class had started. The only difficulty I had was that I used the book as a reference to make flash cards so I was missing a lot of information, especially on the first section with the essay. I do wish I hadn't just skimmed the chapters and focused on what I had thought was important because I ended up missing out on a lot of answers, but what's done is done and I can only hope to do better on the next test.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, if I didn't take a few minutes before class to review over the EXACT TEXT in the book, I probably wouldn't have been able to complete some of the questions. However, I didn't think about using flashcards for studying. That's actually a really good idea. However, if we paid attention in class...we all should've done remotely fine, right?
DeleteI would say test #1 was pretty easy. If you studied for it, you would've went through the questions in a breeze. Although I did study for it, there were some questions where I blanked out on, but that usually happens for me. I reviewed with the class last week Thursday when I came in during a moodle day. I also studied the night before and did a quick review before class started.
ReplyDeleteI can say that the way you prepared yourself for the test was a good way to have a great start on the day and be able to accomplish what you have been preparing for..
DeleteWell to me test # 1 was a great test and it was pretty rough. I had to rush to class and try my best to finish on time, but it was a complete failure. I can say that I was prepared for this test, but I had some slight problems with blanking out on some of the questions but in time I regain my thinking cap back on and then continued. My preperation for this test was to study smart and not make it difficault for me to understand it fast. After was to get a good dinner, not too big tho and get a good nights rest to top it off. For my next test I will be doing the same preperation as I did for this test, it has helped me get ready for the next test.
ReplyDeleteI admire your drive and confidence to at least your best to make it to the test, regardless of the time you had left. I think a lot of people blanked out. I think we all expected to be tested on our capability of the strategies...not the knowledge of them. Good for you though, Mark. You still have another test to redeem yourself (:
DeleteI thought the test was pretty hard at the same time, it was my fault of not studying completely for the test. The questions mostly confused me because it makes me think that it wants us to answer a different answer. I would say that I mostly blacked out in many of the questions, but still had to try answering it even though I might not know the answer. It now made me know what kind test the professor gives us, so I can be ready for the next time.
ReplyDeleteYes, the test definitely required paying good attention in class and good study habits. I guess we didn't have in mind what exactly to expect. Personally, I thought it'd all be multiple choice and I would've been fine from there! Apparently, we were fooled. Hopefully we will improve on the next test.
DeleteI felt my confidence fluctuate as I progressed through Test #1. I felt that I had studied well, but not well enough. I should've checked out the reading from the beginning of the test a couple more times. I feel confident about my essay. I also feel content with most of my answers on the chapters. However, I fear that I might've mixed up a few strategies in different stages. Regardless, I know I am capable of completing the skills we learned. I took notes as preparation on the main points of our chapters and looked back and even highlighted key figures on the worksheets or activities we completed in class. I felt the most helpful source I used was our old posts on the Moodle and blog because they included reflections of everything we were learning in class. For test #2, I will keep all our assignments and worksheets together from class and organized so I can study each needed detail I will need for the test. Other than that, I feel like my study habits are pretty healthy and well-prepared. (:
ReplyDeleteI felt that Test #1 was a little difficult for me, only because I confused myself with a lot of the questions about the strategies we've learned. I knew I learned it and studied it for the test, but when it came to the actual test questions, I sort of blanked. For me, some of the questions I also had to reread over and over again because they sounded like the same question that was being asked for different numbers. Before taking the test, I wasn't sure if it was going to be a Multiple Choice, Fill In The Blank, or Short Answer kind of test. Now that I know what kind of tests we're going to be having in the future, I know I'll most likely improve my grade for the next test.
ReplyDeleteDiscuss your thoughts on taking Test #1. Were you prepared for it? If so, what strategies did you use as part of your preparation? If you were not prepared for it, what will you do next time to ensure that you do well on the test?
ReplyDeleteTest #1 for me was a bit difficult. Many of the questions, I felt were all the same. Using all the strategies also had me confused. It was hard to discriminate which strategy was used for. Also, all the abbreviations seemed to be repetitive. For ex, CLUESS & COPS, I didn't know which one was Capitalization or coherence.
