Reflection - Section 11 - Test #1 - Oct. 8

Discuss your thoughts on taking Test #1.  Were you prepared for it?  If so, what strategies did you use as part of your preparation?  If you were not prepared for it, what will you do next time to ensure that you do well on the test?

  1. I thought the test was too easy! Just kidding. It was really based on everything we have learned in class. Most of my answers were from the writer's guidelines. I believe that helped out a lot in summarizing chapters one through four. I was really confused on the first page of the test, I wasn't so sure what to answer so I winged it.

    1. Agreed, that first page was just too confusing. It killed my confidence I had before the test..

    2. I agree, the first page of that test really threw me off and pretty much freaked me out for the rest of the test.

    3. I checked the writer's guidelines, too! I agree, it was pretty much summarizing the chapters. The first part was confusing!

    4. I did not understand the first questions too! After seeing that I thought I wasn't gonna do well. However, i looked through everything and I knew i was going to do fine

    5. I did not really understand the first part either. However, i knew that i could not just give up right at the start. After glancing at the first page of the test and being intimidated , I took a look at the the other pages to see what the rest of the test looked like. When I saw that the rest of the test covered majority of what I reviewed, it was then when iI gained a little more confidence.

    6. I agree. I pretty much winged the first page too!

    7. We basically winged the first page because we didn't really discussed that part until the review day.

  2. I'd say i was 8/10 prepared for the test. I reviewed with my friends from the class and made study guides. Majority of the things i studied did not come out on the test, which made me quite upset, but overall I'm just proud i studied. Next time i plan on studying with a different method or maybe even study ahead of time instead of last minute.

    1. I agree, the majority of the stuff that I studied was not on the test. I wish there was a study guide and I wish we knew when reviews would be held, so we could come in, instead of attending class on Moodle.

    2. I agree! There were some questions I don't remember going through. I thought I covered every material we discussed. I should have asked someone what I was missing!

    3. I can relate cause i also overstudied! But it's better to be safe than sorry!

    4. I agree! I feel like we didn't cover some of the questions on it, but I guess I just need to study harder next time.

    5. I agree! I should study a couple days prior to test day so it could benefit me better on my grade. Just try harder next time.

    6. I know! I'm going to study ahead instead of last minute next time as well.

    7. I agree! Next time ill do my best.

  3. I thought the first test was quite hard. Even thought we went through the chapters, I wasn't quite sure what to expect because we mostly post online. I studied by reading through the chapters and noting down key points and preparing my essay and even so I wasn't sure if that we enough or if I needed to do more. I don't feel as confidence after the test.
Now that I've tried all the online activities with blogging and moodles, I think I would rather use the class time to discuss all the topics that would be posted on the moodles and blogs. I think I would understand better because it force me to interact with the class and we'll be able to discuss those topics with the students and the professor as well.

    1. Agreed, the test was a little confusing and difficult.. it feels like we rushed it a little. Next time we should, review during class more!

    2. I second that, it was hard! I don't have any confidence that I did well on this test.

    3. The first test had some confusing questions. I remember the first part on one of the blogspot discussions but I guessed on it. I should have reviewed it again and made sure I was confident in my answers.

    4. I thought it was a little confusing at first too. However, I kind of expected it to be confusing and a little different from test I used to see in high school. This was my first test to ever take in college, so i did not know what to expect. I was defiantly nervous.

    5. Yeah it was really hard. I wasn't prepared for it.

  4. I was definitely not prepared for the test. I honestly came to school this morning thinking that I would do a pretty good job on the test, but I was completely wrong. I reread the chapters (including the writers guidelines) and read through blogspot and moodle, while taking notes and I also reread my notes from class. I must have been taking the wrong notes! The things I did know, I completely went blank, because I knew that there were numerous questions I could not answer (and I freaked out). I wish I knew that during the last 'moodle session' day, there was a review in class. If I knew that, I would have came to class that day, instead of going on moodle.
In the future, I am going to try and come into class on moodle days, as often as I can. I will definitely be in class during the class period before the test, because I noticed that some people knew exactly what was going to be on the test due to being there during review. Also, I will try and relax a little more and trust what I already know.

    2. I agree, I should have went to the last 'moodle session' day before the test!

    3. I agree, next time i am going to go to class face to face, regardless if it is a Moodle day.
I too, have a tendency to get really nervous and freaked out before a text. But it does help calm your nerves when you know what is going to be on the test.

    4. I agree! being in class for a review day is very helpful and important. I wasn't aware that it would be review also.

    5. I agree. I feel like I studied the wrong notes too, but overall I think you did fine as long as you payed attention in class!

    6. haha i came to class knowing i wasn't ready !!! but next time we got this

  5. I really thought I was going to pass because I reviewed the chapters. I scanned through some of the questions on the test and I couldn't answer them because I don't remember them on the pages I went through in the book. Perhaps I missed a few pages. I should have asked my classmates if I missed anything. I'll take more notes down and write down every page we went through.

    1. Its okay we learn from out mistakes, we still have one more exam lets study and pass this class!

      Delete
    2. It's okay. As long as you learned something. Now we know what to expect on other exams!

      Delete
    3. We are in the same boat! I couldn't answer some questions, too. Now we know what to expect & we can work on our mistakes from this test.

      Delete
    4. thats good! i think reviewing would of helped me because i knew the answers but i just couldn't think at the moment cause my mind was blank from not reviewing

      Delete
    5. I should do that too - ask my classmates if I missed anything. Maybe it would benefit us all, if we take a quick review together as a class, prior to the test starting.

  6. I thought the test was not all that bad. It was not extremely hard, but at the same time is was not extremely easy. I am glad my friends from the other sections and I gathered as a study group. We complied all our notes from previous lectures and lessons and composed a study guide. This was helpful because most of what we reviewed together was on the test.
Somethings I would change for the next test would be, to put a little more focus on the essay portion of the test and to attend the class prior to the test day face to face, instead of just going on Moodle. Attending class face to face prior to the test day will allow me to ask any questions or clarify anything i may need help on to better prepare for the test.

  7. I thought the test was awesome because it was easy for me. At first before I studied I thought it would have been harder than it was, but actually it was easy to understand because we have discussed it all. I was prepared for it and i made a reviewer just in case any of the material would come back in another test. The only confusing part was the first couple questions. I think i did okay in those, I'm not too sure but I hope I did fine.

    1. Agreed. The first couple of questions were a challenge, but the rest were fairly easy if you studied. I think i did pretty good too.

    2. Good job! I remember having this conversation with you after stepping out of class. Good to know you were confident turning in your test paper.

    3. I did the exact same thing. I went over the book and made a study guide to review over. And I think majority of the class had difficulty in the first set of questions. I know I did!

      Delete
    4. I was confident like you until I took the test. I was surprised of my score though.

    5. Good job. Wish I did as good as you.

  8. Last night, I was overwhelmed with studying for my English and psychology exam and math quiz. I thought I was prepared, but the first page threw me off. I knew most of the material, but I expected the test to be based more on common sense than memorizing the terms. When I looked through my notes, I realized I mixed up some of the answers. I know they were things I knew, but I guess I just blanked out. I was pretty confident about my essay though because I actually worked on it a lot the night before and practiced writing it multiple times. Now I know what to expect on future tests.

    1. I agreee, I came to class thinking that I was prepared for the test. I couldn't have been more wrong. The first page made me freak out and all the stuff I studied disappeared. You're right though, now we know what to expect.

    2. dang!! that is a lot of studying haha i have nothing to complain about now i only had a english test and i was super lazy

    3. That must of been hectic for you to study for three subjects. Maybe next time, the test date will not clash with any other subject's test date, giving you more time to relax when studying.

    4. I did the same with my essay! I even brought it to work to study when I went on break haha

    5. It was super hard wasn't it? Well studying is the key for this class. Better yet, mastering is the goal in this class.

  9. The test was so confusing. I had confidence in myself on the first part, but I lost it in the actual test day. I still have confidence in my essay. I rewrote that seven times. I hope it does me well. I'll be crossing my fingers.

  10. I was actually pretty intimidated by the test. I didn't exactly know what would be on it so I found myself reading four chapters of work for the past week. During the test I felt more confident since most of the things were listing and easy to remember. The essay portion was what I feared most. I spent the previous day studying the essay exclusively just to prepare for it.

  12. Test 1 was really challenging. I thought I was prepared but I wasn't. I want to do better next time and be more prepared. The essay was really good. I know I did well on it. I just need to be more prepared next time.

  13. Test 1 was very difficult for me. I thought i could do good with not much studying but i was very wrong. I hope to do better next test. I will study more and be more prepared for the upcoming test

  14. My mistake was focusing more on the descriptive essay part rather than studying everything we went through. I remembered most of what we covered but some of the questions were a bit tricky. Next timeI will be sure to study more efficiently!

    1. I had a difficult time answering/understanding the first set of questions. I too focused more on the essay. Need to just give more time to study.

  15. The first page caught me off guard. I went through the questions, answered the ones I knew, and went back to the ones I didn't. I would say I was half prepared. I ended up studying the night before which is a huge mistake. I quickly skimmed through notes then focused on my essay. Next time, I would study at least once a day a couple of days prior to the test. This will help information stick in my brain.

  16. Like what everyone else was saying, the first page threw me off. However, the other ones were okay, but still challenging. The listing portion and essay was the easiest part. Before the actual test day I went through the chapters we covered and reviewed the activities, but it didn't really help me. I thought I was prepared...
